Memorial Union, North Dakota State University
Wall sculpture
To be installed by August 1,  2008

The NDSU Memorial Union is looking for artists to submit proposals for a wall-mounted sculpture of the NDSU mascot, the bison, for an inside wall of the new west entrance. The sculpture is to be completed and installed by Friday, August 1, 2008, for a re-dedication ceremony in conjunction with NDSU Homecoming, September,  2008.

This Request for Proposal is open to all artists in any sculptural material so long as submissions reflect the bison mascot and the mission and intent of the University. Preference will be given to straightforward design and natural materials, for example, copper, ceramic, glass. NDSU’s guiding principals may be found at http://www.ndsu.edu/ndsu/about/mission/ .The art submission deadline is Friday, May 23,  2008. Art will be judged by Tuesday, June 3, and notification will be sent on Thursday, June 5, 2008.

The intended wall is approximately 7’ of horizontal wall space and 11’ vertical. It is at ground level in the new, two-story west entrance of the Memorial Union. An un-adorned diagonal wall projects to either side of the ‘art wall.’

Anchors – a system for attaching the piece to the polished block wall –  such as sleeve anchors – must be incorporated in the artist’s design.
 
Please include anticipated total cost of the piece – material, design, fabrication, delivery and installation.

NDSU will hold copyright to the artwork. The title, artist’s name and dedication date will be posted to identify the work and its creator(s).

Include the following within your submission:
1.    All Sculptural artwork proposals MUST be submitted via JPEG/JPG image. File Name should follow the format:  Artist’s Name_Name of Piece_Dimensions.jpg (John Smith_Artwork1_16x20.jpg)
2.    Accompanying e-mail must include title, media, measured drawing(s) (width, height, and depth) of the proposal, recommendation of the means of securing the piece(s) to the entrance block wall; artist’s name, address, contact e-mail address and phone number; two recent references.
3.    Website address submissions will NOT be accepted.
4.    Late entries, received after the closing date of submission, will NOT be accepted, no exceptions.
