Kujenga at a Glance
Welcome to Kujenga-NDSU's cool winter diversity retreat! "Kujenga", meaning "to build", is a three
day retreat that takes place at a beautiful conference center in the middle of Detroit Lakes. Each
year, Kujenga is held right after December finals. This year, Kujenga will be held on December
18-20, 2007 (we leave for the conference center at 5pm Tuesday and return at 1pm Thursday). This
retreat is free!
While at the retreat, participants share their favorite ethnic dishes (students are reimbursed for costs), learn and celebrate different cultures, enjoy different games from around the world, enjoy three presentations on topics such as "Leading in a predominantly white culture" or "How to increase your leadership effectiveness".
The retreat is a great time to meet new friends, enjoy a beautiful conference center where you can relax, play some basketball, learn how to play games indigenous to other cultures, and of course learn how you can better your ability to lead in a diverse world.
Kujenga is sponsored by the Memorial Union Student Activities Office and the Multicultural Student Services Office. For more information, please contact the program advisors Malika Carter at Malika.Carter@ndsu.edu or Amy Graff at Amy.Graff@ndsu.edu.
Mission
Our mission for Kujenga is to have a great time learning about diversity and leadership.
Specifically, our mission is to provide students with the opportunity to learn and celebrate cultural
differences, build confidence and character, and to encourage coalition building between students across
difference.
Vision
Our vision for Kujenga and its outcomes includes having the program's participants develop a greater
sense of confidence in regards to leadership and their ability to further enhance their environment to be
more pluralistic, participants will create new connections with other students to create a more
inquisitive and accepting campus atmosphere in regards to issues of diversity, and to help each
participant to see how their success as leaders depends on the success of others.
Please email Amy Graff at Amy.Graff@ndsu.edu if you are interested in signing up for Kujenga.
