Student Leadership Institute

Success is a Choice

Welcome to NDSU new students!
North Dakota State University invites you to participate in a three-day Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) for incoming students. SLI offers an opportunity to enhance your leadership potential, create new friendships and hit the ground running when school begins.
Your effectiveness as a leader will be enhanced, and you'll enjoy interactive workshops and participate in team games. The goal of SLI is to help you become connected to NDSU and more confident in taking your place among NDSU's finest student leaders.

The Fun

You will get acquainted on a first name basis with 30 other incoming students, stay on the NDSU campus and take advantage of all that campus has to offer.

NDSU student leaders will act as group facilitators ensuring you get to know other participants and maximize what you learn in the workshops. They will help you build strong bonds and will help the group learn to be an effective team. Student leaders also will answer questions you may have about college life. Don't wait until school begins to start building these connections, jump right in with the Summer Leadership Institute!

The Next Step

Reserve your spot now as space is limited. SLI will be offered this summer on (dates coming soon). Applicants will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Thanks to additional University support, the cost of the institute has been reduced to $99. This means you need to register fast before space runs out. The cost includes workshop speakers, program materials, all meals, campus lodging, and a commemorative SLI t-shirt. Payment is due when you register; we accept cash, checks or credit cards.

We hope to see you soon!

About SLI

Our mission is to develop, encourage, and promote leadership skills with new students; empowering them to become effective-holistic leaders within the NDSU community and the world at large.

Vision
The Summer Leadership Institute exists to help all incoming students get acclimated to NDSU and to get involved early in their college career. Often, new students feel the need to wait or acclimate to their new surroundings before getting involved. SLI will help each participant to develop more effective leadership skills. With so many opportunities to get involved, lead, and create change, NDSU wants all incoming students to start shaping their future as soon as they set foot on campus.

Goals

  1. Help students to discover their potential as leaders
  2. Educate students on campus resources and the various ways in which to get involved
  3. Each SLI group will develop as a cohort
  4. Help students to find an organization in which to serve as a leader
  5. Develop basic leadership skills
  6. Create early connections with other incoming students and staff at NDSU
  7. Help students to feel welcome at NDSU
  8. Support other programs designed to assist incoming students such as the Admissions Office, Student Orientation and Success, International Programs, Multicultural Office, Residence Life and Memorial Union.
