
The mission of the MU Breaks is to offer a variety of skill-based, non-credit courses and seminars. The program also endeavors to offer group opportunities to attend a variety of events and attractions in the tri-state area. MU Breaks course offerings are intended to meet the needs of NDSU students, faculty, and staff as well as community members.

Drumming Circle

Continue the drumming with the Monday drumming circle for beating away stress, balancing energy centers,
and feeling great when you leave. Bring a drum or call to reserve one of ours. Co-sponsored with A
Woman's Perspective Multimedia Art Exhibition. No experience necessary. Everyone

Beginning Guitar

We’re getting the band back together!!! Grab your guitar and join us for five introductory lessons.
This class will include all of the basics including chords and strumming. If you’ve wanted to learn
how to play guitar then this is your opportunity to finally get off of the ground. Pat Lenertz is the
front man for local band The Legionnaires and has been playing guitar for a really long time. All
participants should bring an acoustic guitar in good condition.

Fly Fishing

Spring is just around the corner and we all know what that means . . . fishing. Not just fishing, but fly
fishing. If you have ever wanted to learn to fly fish then this is the class for you. Learn the basics
about rods, reels, lines, and flies. Spend hands-on time learning to cast with different types of rods.
Learn how to catch bass, pike, and crappies. Practice rods and reels will be provided. Depending on the
needs of the group members, this class may include an opportunity to go shopping with the instructors if
participants need advice in purchasing their own equipment.

Jewelry Making

Have you ever wondered how jewelry is made? This class will teach individuals how to make gemstone,
crystal, silver and gold jewelry. You will leave with a necklace or bracelet made with your own two hands
and the knowledge to make many more. This class is developed for men and women. All course
materials are included in the class fee.

Dinner Etiquette

Are you getting ready to start interviewing for jobs? Odds are pretty good that your potential employer
will take you out for at least one meal. You had better make sure you didn’t just drink out of your
new boss’s water glass. Maybe you’re just looking to be a more civilized human being?
Regardless, this class will teach you everything you need to know about how to survive formal dining
events and dinner interviews. The cost of the class includes a sit down dinner with a choice of maple
glazed pork loin, Cajun chicken breast or vegetable kabobs.

Texas Hold’em 101

Registration for all classes must be done in person in the Recreation and Outing Center on the lower
level of the Memorial Union. Class sizes are limited and enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve
basis.

on the lower level of the Memorial Union.
