Event Risk Management BackgroundNDSU Rights and Responsibilities of Community: A Code of Student Behavior articulates how alcohol can play a part in student organization activities and events. However, as with rules and policies, it is not unusual for there to be questions and interpretation differences that need clarification by advisors or administrators. It should be noted that in addition to the above Code, all student organization events are also expected to comply with University Alcohol and Drug Policy. The NDSU Event Risk Management Assessment Process is intended to provide general information to NDSU student leaders and their organizations concerning risk management surrounding: 1. Off-campus events open to the general University/public community and where alcohol will not be present. 2. Off-campus closed events where alcohol will be present. This process is for reference only and not intended to provide specific advice regarding specific types of events. Within Policy 4.2.2 of the NDSU Rights and Responsibilities of Community: A Code of Student Behavior, registered NDSU student organizations/Greek chapters planning off-campus closed events where alcohol will be present must complete and file with the Student Activities Office, Memorial Union 360, an NDSU Event Risk Management Planning Notification Form. In addition, registered NDSU student organizations/Greek chapters planning off-campus events open to the general University/public community, where alcohol will not be present, must submit this same form. Take time to review the items listed in the three parts of the NDSU Alcohol Risk Management Assessment Checklist prior to your submission of the NDSU Alcohol Event Risk Management Planning Notification Form. If you are comfortable with your knowledge of the necessary risk management elements to consider when planning an event involving alcohol, proceed by completing and submitting the NDSU Alcohol Event Risk Management Planning Notification Form. Download the form provided for you below, complete the information and return the form to the Student Activities Office in Memorial Union 360 at least two weeks prior to the planned student organization event. For more information on the process, refer to the Notification Process. Should you have additional questions concerning this process, contact the Student Activities Office at 231-7787. What is Risk Management?Within the responsibilities of the Student Activities Office, risk management is the process of informing organizations of the potential and perceived risks involved in their activities as well as, assisting organizations in taking corrective actions and proactive steps to minimize accidental injury and/or loss. The NDSU event risk management process is intended to provide general information to NDSU student leaders and their organizations concerning risk management surrounding: 1. Off-campus events open to the general University/public community and where alcohol will not be present. 2. Off-campus closed events where alcohol will be present. NDSU student leaders should always keep in mind that the use of alcoholic beverages by members of the North Dakota State University community is at all times subject to the alcoholic beverage laws of the state of North Dakota. As such, it is the University's expectation that student leaders be responsible event planners and consider all of the rules, policies and issues before hosting an event. NDSU does not endorse registered NDSU student organization sponsored events, held on or off campus, where alcohol is present. By informing you of these guidelines, NDSU does not assume responsibility for the safety of students during such events. Notification FormThe NDSU Event Risk Management Planning Notification
